This look is inspired by the descriptions of the Seraph angel, a celestial being described in Christian texts. Seraphim are described to be high ranking among the angel hierarchy in Heaven. Their six wings are used to cover their beauty in reverence to God.
Alpaca Wool is knit into soft structures and draped into wings that wrap around the body. A body-suit wraps around the chest in intricate structures and a skirt delicately floats around the legs into a train. The look is completed with a mask of white over the eyes, covering the face as the seraphim do with their wings.
Through visiting museums, knit textile archives, and performing online research, the initial design concept was developed.
Knit techniques were researched and explored on a single-bed knitting machine. Free experimention was done to create unique textiles, gaining an understanding of different material properties when used alone or combined. Through further design development, an understanding of fully-fashioned knit pattern making and shaping was gained.
